I hate boycotts and will never participate in one, no matter how much I respect the motives Remember the Krugerand, Lettuce and Grape Boycotts of the 70's and 80's? I hated apartheid and mistreatment of farm workers. While I never had enough money those days to be in the Krugerand market to begin with, the boycott would not have affected me, and I ate all the lettuce and grapes I wanted.
I think a consumer has a duty to act as a consumer and choose products that maximize his utility. Some things are best left to the government, like making rules for farm labor and taking action against foreign governments. But, for those things within my purview as a consumer, do NOT mix in politics.
Happily, I don't enjoy any of the artists mentioned in the article. But, I do listen to others with opinions different from my own and will always choose my recreation and amusement based on my personal preferences and budget constraints. I do my part for politics by voting Republican and donating to the party and select candidates.
