Wow - that was complicated! Not sure I really understand it. I can just say as a single person, it costs me over 50% of my income to afford a one bedroom condo with only my income. Hadn't thought how much easier life would be if I just got married so we can share the cost of housing. Along those housing lines, I bought because it was cheaper than renting. I've come to realize that the government is subsidizing rent in my area through the Section 8 program, highly inflating the cost of housing in the hood, and in so doing, inflating the cost of housing outside the hood to ensure it can't be afforded by Section 8 renters. While I probably make little enough to qualify for some of these programs, I have saved/invested money when making more at other times in my life so I don't qualify. And I wouldn't want to be a part of that handout debacle. I just know if the Gov't wasn't giving away so much of our money to people who are doing so little to help themselves, rents would be about half what they are now in my area of the country... And I could have rented a nice apartment or house for much less and be saving money right now....
