Jason...Your question is a reasonable and honest one. The subject is deep, and a brief comment here will be insufficient. However, there are personal relationships in which one's duty as a Christian is to be willing to suffer insults and harm--but this is not a blanket requirement to be a punching bag for others. We are also told to be subject to the governing authorities--as soldiers are. The Bible says that in so much as it is possible, be at peace with all men (Romans 12:18). From this we can deduce that it is not always possible. Also, Jesus was approached by a man who had soldiers under his charge, and Jesus complimented him in Matthew 8:8-10 for his faith. It honestly would take a book to answer your question.
