Registration of a legally purchased firearm has been a requirement since I can remember, and that is a long time, here in PA. It helps in recovering lost or stolen firearms. We have a lot of hunting cabins and sportsmen in our area that have been burglarized or robbed. There are a lot of concealed/carry firearms, also and they are usually stolen from the vehicles. So it pays to have them registered in some form to trace the serial number, unless you don't want them found in the first place, the choice is up to you. Insurance is a good reason if you have a lot of 'heirloom' or antique firearms.
