An aggressor is not entitled to a proportionate response from those who he attacks. A proportionate response is a strategic consideration in the hands of the aggrieved in situations where a limited response could possibly be more beneficial TO THE AGRIEVED than a larger offensive. What may benefit the aggressor is not what is of concern in these situations. It reminds me of what is commonly referred to as a “nuisance settlement” in the insurance business. A nuisance settlement is a small payout to resolve a winnable lawsuit that would otherwise cost more to defend in court.
