That is the real question. Which energy source makes economic sense? But is the last word on renewables really that they can only survive either on subsidies or by imposing problems such as noise, on the local people?
What about the August 6, 2012 fire at the Chevron refinery in Richmond, CA, that led to local hospitals having "had seen some 15,000 patients in their emergency departments, with a daily peak of 3,000 patients three days following the incident."?
Would people rather live near a bunch of wind turbines, or near an oil refinery? Most I think would choose to avoid the refineries. And no wind turbine ever contaminated seafood in the Gulf of Mexico, or irradiated vast amounts of land with nuclear fallout.
