I know why marriage is breaking down. There are several reasons. Prime among them is the pressure the government is putting on married couples by taxes. In the 1950s and before, men married and were the sole support of their families. In the 1960s, thanks in large part to Betty Friedan and others, women - even married women who were mothers of young children- began to leave home to go to work. This was exacerbated by the passage of the laws of "The Great Society." Now very few mothers can afford to stay home with their families, and there is just too much pressure on the family, both economic and household workload. Few people, given a choice can stand up under all the pressure. Life was far more gracious when mothers were expected
