My son and his partner (actuall "husband," but I can't get used to calling him that) can't even rent a car without paying the second-driver charge, which my wife and I do not have to pay. They can't get the "family rate" at the gym. They are both covered under my son's health plan, but the IRS says that benefit has to be reported as taxable income -- which is NOT the case with opposite-sex married couples.
There are MANY of these little discriminatory differences that are pocketbook issues -- meaning it really does cost more to be gay than to be straight. These things are the very definition of discrimination.
