I'll grant that we can never know the answer with absolute certainty since we cannot know for sure what would have happened if we had not invaded Iraq. However, my best guess-- agreeing with the viewpoint of the current majority of the American people-- is "No, it wasn't worth it! It appears that Saddam was never as major a threat to the U.S. as proponents of the invasion claimed or believed. Saddam was an evil ruler, but it's not clear whether more harm was done to the Iraqis by the destruction of the war and the ensuing chaos than by Saddam's rule. At any rate, regardless of the Iraqis, I can't see any clear benefit to our own country, the United States of America, that justifies the loss of life and resources.
