If it were mine, I could choose my own textbook, teach the texts I choose and I promise you, my students would outperform most. I resent bureaucrats in federal, state, and county education deciding what that is. You may live in happyland where all your higher-ups are pure as the snow and not driven by a political agenda.
I have 10 years teaching in college prep private schools. I had to teach to standards. The last school I was in was looking at adopting CCSS. But it's not folly to suggest that these standards will be used to bully states, districts and teachers into adopting a common curriculum at some point. That frog isn't boiled all at once, you know.
