We are in the grip of a culture-wide slobbering love affair with the novel. We love to break boundaries even if it is for the sake of boundary breaking alone. In that grip, we simply ignore real questions and challenges that are the emergent properties of the new. Alcohol is processed out of the human body at a constant rate. THC stays in the body for weeks. Molecules matter, especially psychoactive ones. But enough of that. A second problem becomes quantifying intoxication. Easy enough to do with alcohol, impossible to do with MJ. And since it cannot be reliably quantified, it cannot be reliably controlled by any responsible agent. These are real social hazards of MJ legalization. CA and CO will be our laboratories.
