When registering my children for public schools, there was always that form where we were supposed to check off my child's "ethnicity". That they asked in the first place pizzed me off, but the misuse of the word "ethnicity" irked me also. My children are adopted. My wife and I are white, of European ancestry, while my daughter is Italian/Hawaiian/Chinese and my son is of Indian (Asian) ancestry. In my mind, my children are Americans, through and through- ethnically/culturally Americans- born in the USA, living in the USA, they speak American English, they abide by the same customs of their very American community. I never checked any of the boxes provided because I thought it was stupid and none of their business.
