Actually many many Conservatives came to see their light and saw Ronald Reagan as their man rather late in the game. A symptom of this is holding up Reagan as a Conservative - for it does not matter a whit as Reagan was conservative as a person whether he was A Conservative. For the latter is a doctrinal position and all doctrinal positions are from a left frame of mind. For example, who cares? Romney whom this country needed to be President may not have been A Conservative, but his policies - all of them - were clearly more conservatives than were Bush's, Gingrich's, Santorums and Rubio's. Reagan was one of the first American anti-Communists to make it to the White House. Reagan, as a blessed anti-Communist was, of course, anti-Left.
