Fort Meyers reportedly has a violent crime rate approximately 2.5 times that of Florida overall, and over 4 times the national average. In other words, Fort Meyers is a bad neighborhood. The high school is situated in the worst part of Fort Meyers, making it a very bad neighborhood. Considering that the student with the gun probably has friends of similarly unpleasant disposition, I am impressed that the hero took any action at all. Promising to testify in a case like this is like a Cicero resident in 1932 promising to testify against Al Capone. The Church frowns on suicide.
