Continued/ I am absolutely and completely convinced that fracking is a bad choice for South Africa. The picture in America, and in other countries is not as Shell paints it. The communities in those countries, if not stacked against fracking are at least divided about the technology. Of the more than 100 media articles a day dealing with fracking around the world, on average 10% have reported positive aspects of fracking.
It is not in South Africa’s interest to pursue shale gas. This will lock us into a deeper dependency on fossil fuels and delay the onset of renewable technology – which we so desperately need. A simple proposition followed by two questions that Shell won’t answer: Someday, all fossil fuels will be exhausted.
