while it is true that the show is really an industry dinner for people in that industry...in agreeing to have it televised to the whole world, the participants must realize that it has become a cultural institution representing america. our movies are exporters of our so-called values as well. having said all that, i lament that we have gone from the earnest wholesomeness of John Denver hosting in the 70s, to the smarmy, mockery culture of Family Guy, Jew jokes, boob jokes, and angry revolutionary First Lady speciousness. is anything sacred anymore? plus we all know that most films that win are garbage, or near garbage, and most good films wind up in a Red Box that someone visits at 2 in the morning outside a 7-11.
