"We can't legislate morality" is one of the stupidest comments liberals or libertarians ever make! Stealing is a moral issue and we legislate against it. Murder is a moral issue and we legislate against that. Charity (welfare) is a moral issue and there are volumes of laws that mandate the exact nature of my charity, willing or not. All laws are one form or another of the individual's interaction with society and are, therefore, moral. Liberals and libertarians just want to define the areas of morality where they are willing to abide by any rules and which areas they want to flout the rules.
