CSCOPE is not mandated for use in Texas classrooms. It is a curriculum developed by a school district in Texas and then sold to districts to use. In many districts it is optional for teachers to use. Districts that mandate that teachers use this curriculum are in violation of the Texas Education Code which says that no one can tell a teacher how they must teach the subject matter the State does lay out in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). TEKS tell teachers what they must teach, but the teacher is the one who decides how they are to be taught. I am an administrator in Texas.
