I wonder what our Founding Fathers would have said about the draft. I bet they'd have opposed it! I've heard different numbers thrown around about how many Colonists were for or against the Revolutionary War with Britain. I think it sounds reasonable to say 1/3 were "royalists" and were opposed to the war, but mostly just kept silent and did not actively fight for Britain. 1/3 were neutral. 1/3rd were for the War of Independence & were willing to volunteer to fight the tyrant, King George. With such a wide range of views on the war, I don't think the Continental Congress could get a draft even if they wanted to (which i doubt they wanted as it would make them the tyrants rather than just King George).
