I'm sorry, I must have not have made my point well. More than a few of my students were under the impression that by merely having the pistol on their person it would prevent bad things from happening. At worse they may have to "brandish it" or threaten to use it. My goal was to weed out those who would be unable or unwilling to defend themselves or others, by having them imagine the consequences of killing. If they could not decide that at some point they could take a life, I would suggest an alternative to a hand gun. The point was that a hand gun is defensive only if you are willing to use it before they can hurt you or someone else. Many people don't have a problem with it.
