$16,000 is a lot of money per student. That translates to well above $300,000 per classroom. The direct cost for a teacher, a room, equipment and supplies (which parents are expected to spring for) couldn't possibly exceed $100,000. That means there's a lot of overhead programmed in there. Can you imagine any charitable agency being allowed to pocket well over two-thirds of it's take without coming under severe criticism? Can you imagine what a private/religious school could accomplish with such funding? State operated schools do not need any more money!
