I don't think the Gulf of Tonkin incident was ever blamed on Nixon. (I simply don't remember whatever I once knew about this:) When you say that LBJ's "Defense Dept" told a lie, are you saying that (identifiable) Democrats in DoD told the lie? That the Sec'y of Defense manufactured the lie? Or that LBJ did so?
