I don't think love and committment have been abandoned, nor do I think they can be abandoned because they are part of human biology. But there is one aspect I think is inaccurate. The notion of marrying for love is very new. For most of human history, even as early as the 19th century, marriage wasn't about love. It was basically a business arrangement for child rearing and inheritance. Love was deemed unimportant, but a nice bonus. Hookups are not new. Look up concubines and mistresses. They are a reflection of certain social conditions and those conditions predate any liberal conspiracy.
