Anyone who suggests that the GOP should change nothing is playing right into the hands of the Democrats. No one seems to be happy to agree with Karl Rove, but the Republican infighting, refusal to change political stance on immigration and military cuts have hurt. But not as much as the GOP supporting unlectable candidates like Akin, Mourdock, Angle, etc. Even Charles K. called the GOP Presidential candidates a "cast of clowns" if that tells you anything.
