What you, or for that matter, our illiterate politicians believe is immaterial. This country was founded on the principal that our rights come from our Creator, not govt, and certainly not public opinion or a 51% majority. Until 1934 there were virtually zero restrictions on firearm ownership, to include owning Anti-tank weapons from WWI and automatic weapons. Only after the repeal of prohibition did the federal government have to find a reason for keeping large numbers of federal agents employed - since alcohol was no longer illegal, why not target firearms. If the govt. can use it in warfare, it is our right to be able to have it for our own defense, period.
