One reason Union membership is declining is prominent in NY. The Union shops keep putting their employer out of business with strikes for wages the companies cannot pay. From 2000 to 2008, I watched such companies as Camillus Knives destroyed this way. I could name a dozen businesses that had prospered, then survived then collapsed under Union greed. No job, no Union. Virtually all these business assets less real property were bought during bankruptcy proceedings and moved into Right to Work States. Good riddance to bad rubbish in my opinion. I know Camillus opened their books, told the Union accountants,"Show us how we can meet your demands." Strike, bankruptcy and several hundred workers unemployed, probably permanently.
