I agree that a household headed by happily married bioligical parents is the "gold standard" for raising children. But if marriage is "about children" why do we permit any sterile couples to marry? Why should my 71 year old aunt and her 73 year old boyfriend be allowed to get married (and claim all of the benefits thereof) if marriage is about procreation? They can't procreare anymore than two men can. For that matter why should a couple who willfully refuses to have children (like half of my friends) be entitiled to the benefits of marriage? So long as these people can be leally married there is no basis for the "homosexuals can't have children so they shouldn't be allowed to marry" argument.
