I have seen on TV and in person many black people teary-eyed and emotional over slavery, an institution ended by a civil war and constitutional amendments done almost entirely by white citizens. People who get teary-eyed over slavery--but not the sacrfices of Gettsyburg, etc--are overly biased toward their own race. And anyone who gets emotional over history beyond their own lifetime sees himself less as an individual and more as a "We".
