When I see the higher poverty figures for those who are not married, I always wonder whenther those who are disinclined to marry are inclined to poverty, or whether marrying is the independent variable, and it promotes a reduction in poverty. If the former, though working to encourage marrying (by which I specifically mean traditional marriage) is a good idea, it wouldn't have musch effect on overall poverty.
