When I was a youth, I was out squirrel hunting. I grew up in a rural area. I was carrying a .22 rifle. As I was walking home along the local county road, I stopped where a creek ran under the road and into to the lake we lived on. There were some carp in the creek and I was watching them, when a sheriff's deputy happened along in his squad car. He stopped abruptly, squealed the tires backing up, and got out to talk to me. He said, "What are you doing?" I replied, "looking at the carp down there". He said, "It's illegal to shoot from a road, kid". I answered, "I haven't". He asked, "What are you doing with that gun then"? I pointed to the woods where I'd been hunting and told him I'd been hunting squirrels over there. cont'
