A REAL problem for conservatives is that the Left snookered us with the changes in the immigration laws which took place in 1965. As late as 1980, Hispanics were just 2% of the population and they WERE conservative, with traditional values. But immigration, with a new emphasis on family unification versus traits which would benefit America (education, skill set), has soared the number of Hispanics to 16%--> an 8-fold increase. The new Hispanic millions are usually poor and often ignorant and recently frequently ILLEGAL...it is THEY who have so altered America so suddenly. Conservatives CANNOT appeal to these naturally guvment-dependent types. Surveys show that 70% of ILLEGALS came here for the Big Guvment giveaways, NOT for jobs.
