As a vet with knowledge and an owner of several M1 Garands and the M14 that I was trained with while I was in the Army, the rifle has to be field stripped before the bolt can be replaced. and then there is the matter of the operating rod spring. Was it still in the rifle. So, being that you would have to have multiple parts in your pocket, plus ammo. I think that someone would notice that you were field stripping the rifle and would be captured before you could reassembole it and load it. It is not as simple as you think.
