I find it hard to get all teary eyed about the farmer when I hear that the farm states are insisting on the passage of $1T 10yr farm bill with the following elements.
1. Replace price floors with guaranteed profit margin (I know a lot of businesses that wish they had that).
2. Subsidized crop insurance which doesn't do much for food production but does encourage risky farming prasctices.
3. The continuance of ethanol subsidies - In all fairness this may be separate from 'the farm bill'.
If you even question any aspect of farm subsidies you get the most absolutely most sanctimonious and surly responses that you are sure to ever hear. It's as if the recipients are doing you a favor.
