The 2cnd Amdt to the USC,
As passed by the Congress:
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
As ratified by the States and authenticated by Thomas Jefferson, Sec-State:
"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."
Notice the missing commas, some say that the British changed the document during the War of 1912.
The original hand-written copy of the Bill of Rights, approved by the House, Senate, prepared by scribe William Lambert, resides in the National Archives.
The 2cnd-Amdt is the only amdt to the USC which states a purpose.
