US automakers are well-known for taking parts of older cars and assembling them into a "new" car. the AMC Gremlin was just a Hornet with the trunk cut off,to make a "compact" car. "Detroit" used to use their sloppy steering in every car,big or small, while imports used a tight rack and pinion steering.
