The German workers have strong unions! Unions do not want to kill the golden egg laying goose, and it was not unions that made so many Buicks have 195hp 3.8L V6 engines with pushrod technology and made it very ahrd to compete with Hyundai's 263 hp DOHC V6 in a somewhat cheaper car with better gas mileage. There was so much stupid mismanagement that teh collapse of GM and Chysler was not surprising; what was surprising was the survival of Ford with no government help.
