Does it really make sense to employ more workers than required to do the job? 150 years ago a huge percentage of the population was engaged in agriculture. That percentage is now about one percent. Are we better or worse off for it? Improvements in efficiency almost always cause disruptions but the alternative is to forego the improvements in efficiency that are the very reason we are not living at a subsistence level.
