I'll disagree with you only slightly. IF (and that's a big "if") the media back-story on Lanza's mom was accurate, then she was someone who was not only passionately devoted to her son, but also someone who was realistic about her son's condition & its ramifications. To the point that it was reported that she was looking into having him committed the week prior to his rampage. If this is true, then she should've had a SAFE for those guns. With a combination lock. I inherited my Dad's, which you couldn't open if you had 5lbs of C4! Its gun ownership 101. When you have kids, or people with conditions like Lanza's, you keep your guns in a safe, not a gun cabinet. And you also don't keep the ammo in the same place.
