Here in NY State I'll keep my .243 Winchester. It's an old 1967 Sako Forester that once belonged to Kenny Jarrett and I got it at the first Westchester gun show in 11 years back in 2010. It will put the Federal 70 grain ballistic tip varmint bullets in a clover leaf at 200 yards. I'm saving for a Ruger American in .243 to be set up for deer. Here we don't have many shots past 150 yards. If I went over that caliber I'd look at a 7mm-08.
