How does a species of, allegedly, intelligent beings come to this? If we were making "intelligent" decisions, if our elected leaders were "intelligent," facts would be relevant and fictions would be identified as irrelevant. Furthermore, since it can be useful to draw some logical conclusions based on facts (such as "good fences make good neighbors," or "a well armed citizenry is a safe citizenry"), honest "leaders" would be communicating the truth, whatever it is, not fiction-based ideologies. The "President" would be saying: Armed good guys are the only reasonable defense against armed bad guys. Why the heck is that so hard?
