Mr. Tatro’s math doesn’t work either. The last two jobs for which I was lucky enough to be hired I was told generated 400 applications for the one position. In fact, I have heard other employers say this is about the average now. I’m an administrative assistant, and although there are a lot of people with my skill set, there are also thousands of positions that fit my job description. Nearly every business needs an AA and average to larger businesses have dozens, sometimes hundreds.
Since I lost my position of seven years in 2009, I was not able to find another. I have taken early retirement because no one wants a 60-year old administrative assistant.
