That might work in some local elections in certain regions of America. However, if these people are serious about electing a candidate that more closely reflects their views on say, economic or foreign policy, they better stop supporting flagrant homophobes, racists and hatemongers. How many Presidential elections have to be lost before the party gets its collective act together? Democrats lost three straight Presidential elections, in landslides, during the 1980s before they "got the message", created a "new Democratic party" headed by a compartively moderate (at least compared to Dukakis, Mondale & Carter) Southern governor. After 12 long years in the political wilderness, Dems took full control of the WH, House & Senate.
