So the U.S. can act as the world's policeman better than anyone else. But with $16 trillion in federal debt and $200 trillion in unfunded liabilities and a faltering economy, how long can the U.S. afford to defend and grow its world-wide empire? Liberals tend to increase the federal government through welfare, and conservatives increase the government through warfare. Either way, the federal government grows and so does its debt and financial obligations. What happens when it finally becomes apparent that the perpetual growth of the federal government is unsustainable?
