My husband came from Barbados and had to return to his homeland, have a background check, health checkup, and was fingerprinted before coming back into the U.S. Once he arrived in Miami, he was immediately signed up for the draft (Vietnam Era). He had to stay married to me for at least 5 years before even APPLYING for Naturalization, and then had to pass the Citizenship Test before he was actually privileged to become a citizen. While on his Green Card, he was obliged to show up IN PERSON at Immigration, yearly, to verify his address & work info. I don't think any illegal should EVER be allowed citizenship; that is outright rewarding a lawbreaker, and it IS a slap in the face to those who followed all the laws to come here legally.
