The whole journalism and political left elite have convinced themselves that that is precisely how it is, that we've won, al Qaeda is beaten, everything is unicorns and rainbows now... AND that because they are the propaganda masters of the universe, all they have to do is say something is true, and it becomes true. Yet, some of the most celebrated of their ranks have spoken up that this narrative is simply NOT true. Lara Logan, for one, said as much at a conference of media elite just a few months ago.
