The Conservative males (and like minded females) have reached a delusional hysteria. They finally realize that they can no longer control and coerce people with their socially conservative laws, religious ideals, and so-called "Values". They have lost power over the Culture, and their worlds are falling apart. The idea that they cannot force people to behave as they want terrifies them to a pathological hysteria. Their "government handouts" in the way of laws are losing effectiveness, or being taken away. Just as the drug addict going through a terrible withdrawal, the Social Conservative now feels the utter agony of realizing they no longer have Government help to coerce people, and must now turn to the Free Market of Ideas to win.
