And swing voters have no interest in candidates that appeal to the base (think Paul Ryan, Rick Santorum, or Newt Gingrich). The only real hope I see for Republicans in the short term for a candidate with national appeal is Chris Christie, the question is whether or not the base would consider voting for him. In preliminary polls he's the only candidate that not only gets within 10 points of Hillary but is running almost dead even with her. Second, policy is an issue. I'm not saying things should be completely revamped, but things need to get tweaked.
