As a female vet, I liked to think of myself as pretty tough. However, I am not foolish enough to think that I can, as a combatant hold my own. Can I kill? Yep. Can I run a tank if necessary? Yes. But not carrying the same weight as my male peers is not only a distraction, it dumbs down the mission and puts everyone at risk. What if I got captured? The likelihood of rape and other abuses would go without saying. Are my risks any different than an every day one? You bet they are. And my male peers put themselves at risk to protect me. In every situation I would expect nothing less, but this is beyond the pale.
