I think this happened about 30 years ago. As I remember it, a convicted felon wanted to buy a gun and on the application refused to answer the question of if he was a felon. He sued and the ACLU represented him and the basis of their case was that it was unconsitutional to force him to answer that question because it was "self-incriminating." I don't remember if he won the suit.
