A problem is that life-saving goals frequently conflict with other goals. For cars one example would be fuel economy. You could make a much safer car, if you built it like a tank (sans gun turret of course). Wouldn't it be worth it if it "saved just one life"? Doesn't the mandate for "green" cars necessitate that more people will die if they are in accidents, given the lighter construction? Don't listen to me; I grew up as a shy, awkward kid...
